Cleveland Golf announced its RTZ 2 wedges last week, and they showed up on tour at the Wyndham Championship. The headline is the designer: Roger Cleveland is back in the wedge-building process, almost 50 years after the 588 Tour Action wedge.

What's new

The RTZ 2 carries Cleveland's current spin technology: HydraZip, UltiZip and Rotex milling on the face. It comes in three finishes, with lofts from 46 to 64 degrees and True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts as standard.

FinishPrice
Tour Satin$199.99
Black Satin$199.99
Tour Rack Raw$219.99

The original RTZ is already a winner this year. Ryan Fox had three of them in the bag when he won The Open.

Which finish

Raw finishes rust over time and are chosen for feel and reduced glare. Satin finishes keep their look longer. Performance-wise the differences are small, so choose the one you like looking at.

The verdict

Buy, if your wedges are worn.

Worn grooves cost spin from the fairway and the rough, so wedges are the clubs most worth replacing regularly. If yours are two or more seasons old and you play a lot, a new set at $199.99 each will make a difference you can see. If they're fresh, wait.
