Scottie Scheffler won the FedEx St. Jude Championship by eight shots on Sunday. It was his 21st PGA Tour title, and the numbers behind it explain why nobody panicked about his run of second places.
- 21 PGA Tour titles. He is the 36th player in history to reach that number
- 11 Straight wins when leading after 54 holes
- 5 Runner-up finishes this season before Sunday, one of them at the Masters
- 5 Seasons in a row with more than one win. Only Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have also done that in the last 40 years
- 8 His winning margin, the biggest on tour this season and the biggest ever at TPC Southwind
- 3rd Youngest player to reach 21 wins since 1960
- 61 His Friday round
What changed
Not much, which is the point. His ball-striking was as good as ever all season; the wins just weren't coming. In Memphis the putts dropped. He said he'd been sharp with his irons and rolled it well, and that was enough to make up for not hitting as many fairways as usual.
What's next
The BMW Championship at Bellerive this week, then the Tour Championship. He was top of the FedEx Cup through the regular season, and Memphis extended that lead.
