When Scottie Scheffler won the Tour Championship on Sunday, he took $10 million and moved to the top of the PGA Tour's career money list. Tiger Woods had been there for nearly 26 years.

The obvious caveat

Woods never played for a purse bigger than $10 million during his peak years, from 1997 to 2008. Scheffler has just won that much in one week. Career money lists mostly measure when you played, not only how well.

The season underneath it

Take the money away and Scheffler's year still stands up:

Scheffler has won the Jack Nicklaus Award as player of the year for the last four seasons. A fifth would tie Woods' record for consecutive awards.
