Wyndham Clark won the BMW Championship on Sunday, his third title of the year. With one event left in the season, here's how his year compares with the rest.
- 3 Wins: the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May, the U.S. Open in June and the BMW Championship
- 2 Times he's led by five or more after 54 holes this year. Six at Shinnecock, five at Bellerive
- 1 His winning margin at the U.S. Open after that six-shot lead
- 3 His winning margin at the BMW after that five-shot lead
- 70 His final round on Sunday, even par, with the lead gone and then won back
The player of the year race
Clark now has as many wins as anyone this season. Chris Gotterup and Matt Fitzpatrick also have three. Scottie Scheffler has two, after Memphis, and leads the FedEx Cup.
What sets Clark apart is where his wins came: a major and a playoff event. PGA Tour players vote on the award, and they tend to weigh the biggest events most. If Scheffler wins at East Lake, the argument gets harder.
The pattern
Clark said himself this came after his worst year. What stands out is how he closes: he has given away big leads twice this year and still won both times. That is a very different reputation from the one he had 12 months ago.
