Scottie Scheffler started the final round of the Tour Championship three shots behind Viktor Hovland. He finished it three shots ahead, with his second FedEx Cup.

How he did it

He signaled it early. At the 211-yard second hole his 5-iron finished two inches from the cup. He caught Hovland with a 25-foot birdie at the fourth and went ahead for good at the 13th.

He wasn't perfect. He made bogeys at the seventh, after a poor wedge from the fairway, and at the 14th, from a bad lie in the rough. He was still the only player in the last three groups to break par. The last birdie came from a fairway bunker to 11 feet at the 16th.

Hovland made one birdie all day, shot 72 and finished alone in second. Three of his putts caught the lip in a four-hole stretch. Ryan Gerard, one back at the start, double-bogeyed the first, made 13 straight pars and finished third.

The win also took Scheffler past Tiger Woods at the top of the PGA Tour's career money list. Cole has the numbers.
